December 2009 - "My friend, Janell, and I have been to Refuge Farms for your thrift sale and was so happy to see such a wonderful home for homeless horses. Janell and I foster cats & kittens, for our local shelters, and know how much love and work it takes to care for homeless pets.
Janell's brother passed away from cancer in November of 2009 at age 40. Her family was dairy farmers and they had a horse that she and her brothers grew up with. I know her family would appreciate a donation in his honor to your organization. Hope that it helps your homelss horses."
Thank you, Amy P. of Eau Claire, WI. Thank you.

December 2009 - A generous donation was made by Boker Investment Management, Inc. out of Chicago, IL in loving honor and memory of Mary Stach, mother of Mary Jane Stach, our Board of Director's member.
The donation will be used to continue our Missions and save lives as Mary was an animal lover. She and Little Man had a very special bond. He rested his head on her leg and she rested her hand on his head. Then the two would just sit together. Together. Quietly soaking in each other's love.
Many thanks from those that will be rescued because of your generous support.

March 2010- Our friends, Jim and Linda J. of Eau Claire, WI sent a generous donation in memory of Little Man. The card was very special and, with their permission, I would like to share it with you. The message is so very perfect for what is in the hearts of all of us.
The card read, "Hope things get better every day"
The note inside said:
"Dear Sandy,
Jim chose this card for you to express concern for you to feel better. But of course there is nothing wrong, and everything right, with mourning the loss of our loved ones. Especially when someone spreads love and cheer to everyone, as Little Man did.
Please accept this donation for THE FARM in memory of Little Man, our pal.
I know time will aid us in lessening our shock and grief, but it will never cause us to forget him."

June 2010 - A talented and compassionate Friend of THE FARM, Dr. Anne Nicholson of St. Paul, MN, donated a brand new Schneider's winter horse blanket in a Big Fella size 90. The blanket was for her beloved Harvey, whom she lost earlier this year. And in her kindness, she considered Refuge Farms as a good home for the blanket that would have protected her companion.
Thank you for your generous and thoughtful gift, Dr. Anne. And know that Harvey's blanket will comfort a horse that is in need. A horse that has gone through very tough times and has finally made it to Refuge Farms for protection and warmth. We will make good use of the blanket and remember Harvey in doing so. Thank you.
June 2010- Kathleen B. of Victoria, MN contributed to the Missions of Refuge Farms in the name of Annelise Brown. Thank you!

July 20, 2010- A simple email from someone who knew of Refuge Farms. A horse with mild mobility problems. What to do? My advice was to have a full evaluation and know the diagnosis before beginning treatment. So off we went today.
Jonie was a gloriously intelligent and georgeous thoroughbred. A young seven years of age, she was given up when she couldn't win a race. Quick to learn. Easy to love. And a girl without an ounce of aggression in her. Lessons about release of pressure and she was waltzing in and out of the trailer with me.
Diagnosis was complete and Jonie crossed this afternoon. Her owner, Harriet H. of Elmwood, WI, made a donation in honor and in memory of her Jonie today with the stipulation that the funds be used to support Laddee's cares. Thank you, Harriet.
Jonie - Run, girl! Run! Hold that beautiful head high and run!

August 12, 2010 - A donation was received today with a handwritten note attached. The words are simple yet they bring tears to this tired, hot face. The note said simply:
"In honor of two special mares - Elizabeth and Laddee - who both have exceptional needs well provided for by Refuge Farms."
Thank you for your donation. Your note. And for seeing what we do. Thank you.

September 2010 - Dear friends of THE FARM sent a note with a donation on September 1st, right after the crossing of Laddee, the Little Belgian Mare. The card that is referenced is the greeting card that was shared and included in each Gift Bag at our Annual Fall Gala. Here is their note:
"Dear Sandy,
I asked our daughter-in-law, Bonnie, to make a card for you from the photo showing Laddee's eyelashes. To me those eyelashes are a symbol for the beauty that made up that mare, both inside and out.
We know that many hearts are aching - especially yours - from the absence of such a loved member of the family at Refuge Farms. It is perhaps even harder after fighting so diligently to keep her as healthy as possible and enjoying life as much as she did.
What is comforting (to me at least) is that she let go of her life on her own and after enjoying her new world of love and caring and plenty and friendship right to the end.
While there is little we can do to comfort you, we would like to send a small contribution in memory of Laddee, and in honor of you, Sandy, to add to the fund for the care of The Herd's feet.
Know that we are thinking of you and miss the personality and presence of your Princess Laddee."
September 2010 - Anne M. of South St. Paul, MN recently spent a weekend with some lifelong friends. These women gather each year at the same time and have maintained a friendship for years now. One woman drives in from Iowa. Another woman drives up from Kentucky. And Anne drives in from the Twin Cities. Her note says:
"The three of us have been friends for years and they were more than happy to help THE FARM."
Thank you to Gayle N. for her donation and also to Mary B. for her donation. Mary's donation was made in honor of her friends, Gayle and Anne.
Thank you, ladies, for your donations. And thank you, Anne, for spreading the word!
October 2010 - Leslie T. of Pflugerville, TX is a long time Friend of THE FARM. Leslie wrote on her last note to us that her donation was "being made in memory of Vernon Jentz of Western Springs, IL".
Thank you, Leslie, for remembering us and we gratefully accept the donation in memory of Mr. Jentz.
November 2010 - Dr. Lori & Rob P. of Spring Valley, WI made a donation in memory of "Sun Dancer Sioux". Thank you for your support in the name of one of your dear barn family members.

July 2011 - Doris E. of Cumberland, WI recently honored her late husband, Lester, with a donation to Refuge Farms and a note asking that we "be blessed for all you do". Thank you, Doris, for remembering us and I sure wish I had met your Lester and talked horses with him!
July 2011 - Bonnie A. of Stillwater, MN wrote a note with her donation which she made in honor of Libby:
"Libby was my daughter's Arabian mare who lived to be 34 thanks to Patti S.'s wonderful care."
Patti S., if you remember, adopted two Quarter Horse geldings - Vic & Skip - from a woman who was in desperate need of finding a home for her "children", as she called them. Patti S. lives up in Somerset, WI and her barn is spotless. And the horses? Treated like royalty.
Thank you, Bonnie, for remembering Libby with us. I've met your little mare in my visits to Patti's place. Thirty-four is a good age to reach.

In October of 2009, Candy A. of Boyceville, WI wrote this note to us:
"My name is Candy A. I am writing to you with a donation I'd like to give in memory of my horse, Jay.
I got Jay when I was 12 years old. Last week, Dad had to have the vet come out and put Jay to sleep, he was 29 years old. I had him for 25 years.
I grew up with Jay. We were in 4-H together. My two best friends to this day were also in 4-H with their horses. He was part of our family.
Please accept this donation in memory of my Jay Jay Jetaway. Not a day has gone by when I haven't cried, but I hope helping other horses will somehow fill the hole in my heart.
Sincerely, Candy A."
Well, in December of 2011, Candy wrote to us again and once again supported our Missions with a donation "In the Name of Jay Jay Jetaway".
May 2012 be a grand year for you Candy, and enjoy the calendar!
