Refuge Farms will be offering Horse Handling Classes again in 2015. These classes will utilize the members of the Sanctuary Herd - both sighted and blind. Horse skills learned will include haltering, leading, and trailering of both sighted and blind horses. A total of three (3) horse handling classes will be held. Attendance will be mandatory for those volunteers wanting to handle horses, be a part of the fun of hooking and feeding, and also for anyone wanting to be a member of The Blind Horse Parade Unit. Each of the three (3) classes will be repeated to insure we are doing our best to avoid scheduling conflicts. Classes #2 and #3 will also have a one (1) hour practice time from 12noon to 1pm for you to refresh yourself on the last lesson or simply to practice your newly learned skills!
The Horses Handling Classes are free to active Refuge Farms volunteers. For non-active volunteers or the general public, a $35 donation per class is requested. Fees are payable at class sign-in.
Please wear long blue jeans, well-fitting work gloves, and barn boots for these classes since you will be working with the horses in the pastures and the barns. No steel toed boots and no tennis shoes or hiking boots. A completed application and disclaimer document are required for each volunteer prior to attendance to class #1. Classes will be held regardless of weather - unless it is dangerous to travel so please check this bb prior to departing.
Please refer to this bulletin board frequently to stay current on the schedule and topics covered. Come and join us! It is so much fun and amazing!
