With so many posts to keep track of...I have found a secret that will make things a little easier for everyone. After you have signed in (login) scroll down the main page until you see the Info Center. In the Forum Statistics you will see "View the 25 most recent posts of this forum."



Click on this link and the last 25 posts (made in the entire Bulletin Board) are displayed for you to review. You can easily reply to any of the posts (if you are signed in) by clicking on the "Reply" button at the top of each post.

Oh, yes, Tracy. That early owner of Kentucky Jack did, in fact, compete against that little girl with her big team of Ruby and Jerry, the Roan Horse. And he was one of the persistent ones...always wanting to know how much money I had to have for The Roan Horse....Was he for sale? How much would it take?

It was he, and others just like him, that caused me to have neat little black & white business cards made up that said, simply:

The Roan Horse is not for sale.

And the "little" mare that came with Kentucky Jack? She will be introduced to the world next Sunday. She is here at THE FARM with her new life just beginning.

Tonight after eating her supper, I tapped Laddee on her withers and said two more nights, girl, two more nights....

Today was made for the horses! The overcast skies, warm weather, and the wind to keep the flies off of them! What a group they are - lazy in the hay, playing for a bit, then a bit more lazy in the hay....

Our group from Our Savior's is here tomorrow. They are such a good group and they will accomplish much when they are here!

Off to finish the barn cleaning and then its time for some deskwork before bed. G'nite everyone!

We are set. We are ready.

The trailer is cleaned and emptied of the hay bales from Bristol. The bag of shavings is spread on the floor and a blue barrel with good hay is sitting waiting for her.

I have a plastic bag for the old fly mask that she has now on her face and a new, pristine fly mask in the truck for her return trip.

The teeth she has been leaving me in her feeder are in the truck to show Dr. Ann. And she has received her boosters so all is as ready as I can make it.

Laddee ate her supper this evening and this night, I patted her withers and advised her to sleep well tonight. Tomorrow is a big day. Tomorrow is a big day, Laddee.

And so early in the morning, I will feed and set everyone up for the day. Then Laddee and I will walk down the driveway to the waiting trailer. The dependable truck will take us to St. Paul and then this little mare's life will change forever.

I will keep you posted from the U's guest lounge. Throw those positive thoughts upward tomorrow!!!

Check out KARE 11's website - the story of Laddee that was aired on the 5pm news is already posted by Scott Serocki. Now we just need help for this little mare as she goes in to surgery tomorrow morning at 9am or so.

I will join Laddee before surgery and Dr. Ann for a word of prayer in Laddee's stall before she walks down that hallway. As the surgery progresses, I will post on this bb. And when she stands you will hear me rejoicing across these states!!!

We received a 30 second blurb on the need for homes for resuce horses on the 6 o'clock KARE 11 news tonight. The message is getting out there. Hopefully, the full story of Laddee will appear on the 10pm news.

Laddee continues to re-establish herself in the Helen Keller herd. She is standing, right now, in the center of the barn like Miss Bonita used to stand - with her face in the breeze from the fan. I wonder where she is when she stands there...maybe running in a green pasture with Kentucky jack...looking over and seeing her handsome chocolate mate....and then grabbing a mouthful of sweet grass and they run over the hill to the stream...

Everyone is doing well today. Without a breeze, the flies are a bit pesty, but those fans create the air movement that we need. Once again, its cooler in the barns than in the house!

Dr. Brian was just here. . . with his newly stitched left temple. Seems his temple and the hoof of an 800 lb cow met earlier this week. Five stitches! Ouch!!

We sedated Laddee and removed her bandages. The right eye seems to be healing well. Dr. B thought it was quite a work of art!

Her chin did not have too much fluid to offer us and so we cleaned her and rebandaged her. We will redo the process again next Wednesday.

Dude's infection seems to be lingering too long and so next Wednesday we will also do a culture on his infection and then perhaps change his meds. He is a fine looking animal, though, according to Dr. B. I couldn't agree more, Dr. B! I couldn't agree more!

I cannot possibly think of a way that this day's weather could be any nicer! Sunshine . . . light breeze . . . cool summer air . . . and birds singing everywhere! The Memory Beds are in bloom and the fragrances will almost overtake you! How glorious!!

Dr. B comes out today to redress Laddee's surgical wounds and to check her for progress. He will also take a sample of Dude's infection and then culture it to see what has ahold of his lower jaw.

And then the specialized farrier is here at 1pm to reshoe Miss April (remember, we pulled a shoe?) and trim little Gracie's feet.

All in all, a busy day of caring for the kids! Enjoy the day today!!!

Everyone is munching their breakfasts while I get the last minute details completed....Dude's pen moved (oh, the heavy dew has me soaked!!), litter boxes changed, meds made up for tonight, and feed moved from the new barn to the old barn.

Then it is time to load Laddee and, to her dismay, return her to the U of M for the weekend. We MUST get on top of this infection and get her eye healing. And we must somehow break through to her that touching her face is not something to be fearful of. We'll see what we can come up with on both fronts.

Dr. B was here again last night (Bless his heart!) to culture Dude's under jaw infection. We'll see what that brings back and if a med change is needed there.

But all in all, we are healthy and enjoying this cool summer! Good for the horses, that's for sure!

It was early morning when I turned the calendar over to August. And discovered there the picture of "The Babies".

Tears ran as I read the message of how on their shoulders rests the future. I looked at those broad foreheads and those big shoulders. Those healthy legs and those strong backs. The health and the strength and the stamina of youth. And in that picture I see a young Jerry, the Roan Horse. I see the biggest of the big still present in The Babies.

I did ask him never to leave . . .

One year ago today I began the construction of the Memory Bed for Keller. Everything was done carefully and with love as I adorned him. Knowing that it would not be too long before I would place his soulmate, Babee IV, right on top of him.

And today I will spend time adorning the two of them as they lay together and rest. Two huge holes left in my heart. But two of God's best that I would not have missed for the world!

How lucky I am to have known and gotten kisses from them both. . .

Equipment is so depended upon and when it needs attention, we realize just that!

The truck has a repaired charging system and so we are off once again trailering horses! Today, it is Dude's turn to go to see Dr. Erin at the U of M Equine Center and get to the bottom of his jaw infection. It is time for this to heal and for Dude to find his new adoptive home!

Cooler this morning, but we humans know it is the cool before the heat. Isn't is something that we are "preparing" for this weekend of typical summer weather? My, how we have become spoiled!

Enjoy the rain today! Hopefully some of those precious drops make it to the ground!

The trailer is on the truck and there is fresh bedding and a blue barrel of hay for the passenger. I have the lead rope and my gloves set out ready to go.

At 9am I will load Dude and he is off to an air conditioned building where his final rememberance of his previous life will be repaired. This persistent oozing drainage will disappear and in a week's time, he'll be a new horse!

Surgery is tomorrow - when I find out the time I will post it and, of course, I will post notes about his progress as he goes through the day.

Its about time that this horse gets a life! Who knows what his past has been like and how many humans and other stallions he has had to defend himself against. When he is healed from this, he deserves a life!
