For me, personally, the weather could not be more perfect! I've had a sweatshirt on this morning while feeding and doing some barn cleaning....Now it has warmed up and I'm in a t-shirt.
Warm sunshine, cool breeze out of the west, and bird singing, horses grazing...oh, man! It just doesn't get any better than this!

Weird outside this morning....cool and damp....warm enough that you break a sweat picking the barns....stock tanks are sweating....flies are out but not like yesterday.....
Kids are picking the grass as it grows....too wet to mow lawn and almost too wet to work in the Memory Beds.....
Oh my.....guess its a day for paperwork!!!

My friend sent this to me and I thought I share it with my fellow farm sisters and brothers! I love ya all!
Two Horses ( Please always listen for my bell...xxoo)
Author unknown
Just up the road from my home is a field, with two horses in it.
From a distance, each horse looks like any other horse. But if you stop your car, or are walking by, you will notice something quite amazing.....
Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind. His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made a good home for him.
This alone is amazing.
If you stand nearby and listen, you will hear the sound of a bell. Looking around for the source of the sound, you will see that it comes from the smaller horse in the field.
Attached to the horse's halter is a small bell
It lets the blind friend know where the other horse is, so he can follow
As you stand and watch these two friends, you'll see that the horse with the bell is always checking on the blind horse, and that the blind horse will listen for the bell and then slowly walk to where the other horse is, trusting that he will not be led astray.
When the horse with the bell returns to the shelter of the barn each evening, it stops occasionally and looks back, making sure that the blind friend isn't too far behind to hear the bell.
Like the owners of these two horses, God does not throw us away just because we are not perfect or because we have problems or challenges.
He watches over us and even brings others into our lives to help us when we are in need.
Sometimes we are the blind horse being guided by the little ringing bell of those who God places in our lives.
Other times we are the guide horse, helping others to find their way...
Good friends are like that .... you may not always see them, but you know they are always there.
Please listen for my bell and I'll listen for yours. And remember... be kinder than necessary - everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
Live simply, Love generously, Care deeply, Speak kindly... Leave the rest to God

That is just beautiful. The author has a true heart. It is so sad that people are not able to look at life and get past the things that are not perfect and see and feel the depth and greatness of what is beneath, the real beauty of the world around us and in all living things. We could be lining in Utopia one day if we all looked at the best and the postive and not noticiing the negative first. I really think this poem needs to get around to all.

Happy Birthday, Tanya!
Even though Rafferty has crossed, you are still Rafferty's Mom to me. What a good thing you did for that horse! And wasn't he just a looker!
Enjoy your day today!

I am selfish and I am greedy. But it is so darned good to have everyone back in their places and here again!
Today is a gift, isn't it? Sunshine, cooler summer air, light southerly breeze....oh, if today would last for about 70 hours!! ;D

or 70 more days, talk about greedy! Isn't it gorgeous? This has been a fantastic summer. I rode the bike today for the first time in 5 years . . it was always too hot and sticky by the time I got out from under the school routine . . . then I got afraid to ride - what if I didn't remember how? Wonderful!
Great blog, Sandy, another tissue-sales booster. What a great life for Randy!

I am as happy as a big sow in the freshly watered mud! This weather is perfect for my temperment and lists of things to do!
It is sunny, breezy, and warm but not hot! And the forecast is for a week in the 70's....oh, I'm a happy camper!
The little flies are pesty and so about 2pm or so, I bring PONCIE! and Appaloosa Mare in out of the sun. And I also put Lanna in the box stall next to Dude. You should see him eye up that big beautiful girl standing next to him!
With this weather and the frequent rains, there continues to be some grass but I'm still feeding round bales since there are more mouths than acres to feed them.
And I looked at them all this morning - it seems that Jeri-Ann has decided to grow a bit taller this summer and little Spirit isn't so little anymore! The Babies are growing up!

The humid air has moved on. "Thank you!" says The Herd! With that heavy air, Ole' Man Cole was working very hard to breath yesterday. And the little flies were most persistent!
The year we used the Garage Sale monies to purchase the big barn fans was a good year! Those fans have paid for themselves many times over.
And do some of you remember how Miss Bonita used to stand with her face in the wind? Well, Laddee assumes the same position in the barn, only with her butt first.... Interesting how some horses are so like others yet so very, very different....
Have a great day, everyone! Use it up! All of it!!!

Whoa! I was at Rose's last evening and when I looked at the hillside behind her house, my jaw dropped and I said, "Rose...the leaves on those trees are already turning...".
"Yup," she said. "I know."
Neither one of us were smiling. Both of us were taking that big long sigh that comes with the first signs of fall....oh, my.....
BUT! I have dahlias blooming in the yard and the PeeGee Hydrangea tree that I planted for my sister is heavy with blooms! And there are birds everywhere and I look past the fact that Babee Joy is already changing colors ..... oh, my....
Have a good day today and wear a sweatshirt tomorrow! ....oh,my......

Yes, I've seen the colors change too and my Buddhist heart is having a hard time living in the moment, appreciating the gorgeous summer that has been ours, since like the sword of Damocles, the thought of the W word I cannot speak hangs heavy. A friend out of state was commiserating with me, saying she left Florida after 5 years because she just couldn't stand the heat another day.
So in spite of living off my retirement because of expenses my salary as a university professor can't begin to cover, I went out 4 days ago and got "Rosie" - a 30 year old, small travel trailer - because someone reminded me how less awful my mood was those two years when I got away in the winter. Come December, with Rosie, the 3 dogs and Tabitha the bed cat, I'm Texas bound!

Sandy- I just wanted to write a quick note to tell you how happy we still are with both Romeo and Valentine. Romeo has single-handedly brought my sister Jessi (who came out to pick him up with me) to horses and closer to my family (as many of us ride and spend a lot of time in the barn. Jessi had the same opportunity to ride that we all did growing up, but let's just say... it wasn't her thing. lol =) You know those people who always tend to have bad things happen to them around horses... that was her. So she just stayed away. Until... we came to your place and picked up our handsome little Romeo. I only brought her along because my mom would not let me drive the trailer and truck without someone along... but I am so glad I did. Jessi fell head over heels for Romeo (in fact, she is the one who chose his name that first day). Jessi now comes out and "trains" him everyday, and she has not rode in almost 15 years until this summer. She is patient and loving with every little trouble thing he does. I truly think they have both found their match. Never in a million years would I have guessed my sister would ride again AND ENJOY IT... until this little boy came into our lives. Our sweet Valentine is doing wonderful as well. She actually is amazingly trained and just needed a refresher course to bring it out in her. Although, she did like to buck when she canters in the most cordinated buck you have ever seen. I had to laugh the very first time I saw it. Just a perfect circle without pulling or turning into you when she was on the lunge of this cute little buck...Lol =) (Okay, I am allowed to laugh and still know that it's a problem that needs fixing). We have slowly been working that out of her with some natural horsemanship, and it has been wonderful. We ride them both bareback and western through trails and in the arena. When Romeo came home that day, you gave me something I never would have guessed and it was the best gift I could have ever asked for... a sister who is closer to the family than ever. Thanks again! Oh, how grand to hear from you, Shari! And what a glorious picture!!! Isn't he handsome!!! And his rider - isn't Jessi proud???!!!!
For those of you who may not know, 'Romeo' is 'Mr. Gelding' - one of the four horses pulled out of Iron County. He is obviously doing well and is obviously working his magic with his new owner! I am so pleased and proud!! Jessi looks great on him!
And Valentine - good to hear you are lovingly helping her work through her bad habits. What a pair these two horses are! I am so very happy to hear that they are thriving and you all are enjoying having them with you.
Thank you, Shari, for sharing the news. And especially thanks to you for opening your barns to these two rescue horses.
By the way, is Romeo still playing Houdini through the barn window???
